Relishing in homemade foods again...
So having spent a week on the road and now a week back home both James and I are relishing in home cooked food. For awhile there my stomach wasn't appreciating the abuse, oh I wasn't sick or anything just bloating and general not feeling as healthy I guess. It's so nice to be in control again more than anything. Today I had the last of my sandwiches to use up the broccoli sprouts from last week, the girls will get ham sandwiches or a cooked meal depending on the temperature of the day, right now they are enjoying fish nuggets from Trader Joes, (love that they eat fish!). Oh a follow up on my cheesecake (did I mention I made another one?), that one so did not turn out half as well as my first attempt, next one will include the full fat cream cheese again and I need to figure a way out to prevent water seeping in from the banmarie, it wasn't a good thing, the cheesecake was a bit more dense and I missed the crunch on the base from the water (although the lower fat content might have had something to do with the texture), the taste was spot on tho so if at first or something like that.

Karen,
So glad to see you "back," but know that you had a wonderful visit. Too bad you couldn't have traveled at night, with girls sleeping. It was the only way we could go any where by car.....those were the days!
A question: do you eat digestive biscuits with your tea? If you do, where do you get them. None of our local stores carry them, and of late I've just been ordering them online. Has worked, but if you have another suggestion, terrific.
Another Karin
I wish I could eat biscuits but I have to watch my sugar intake...however I love shortbread which makes a good dunker and you can get those in most grocery stores. As for digestives, well there are a couple of stores around here that sell have a small english selection, Nob Hill and PW Markets, also the Safeway down in Dublin where we used to shop has some items too. I know I'm spoilt but with a large English community in this area I've been lucky. Then again with Mum coming over 2 times a year I can always have her bring something if I need my fix.
I did used to resort to mail order for things I could not find here, and I may have to again for some of the harder to find items. But for the most part I can find everything I need. Oh and there is always cucumber sandwiches instead of the cookies to go with tea, a cookie cutter helps with removing the crusts and making nice bite size snacks.
At one time, here, various stores carried them, but there isn't a huge English population to support reordering them, I guess. When in Dallas, there was no problem.
When searching for online shopping, I discovered several recipes for the biscuits, and I think I'm going to give it a go. I'll let you know.
